The Museums of Villa Torlonia, in the Casina delle Civette venue, host the exhibition Biodiversity in Rome, which brings together 32 photographs by Bruno Cignini, zoologist, writer and science popularizer, and 11 watercolors by illustrator Eva Villa. An unprecedented, one-of-a-kind story in images to discover the animals and ecosystems that distinguish the city (protected areas, historic villas, archaeological sites, rivers and bodies of water). Foxes, cranes, starlings, bee-eaters and many other animals are the protagonists of this unusual review. There is also no shortage of the famous parakeets, the noisy parakeets that have now taken over several trees around the city for some years (such as those in front of the Bank of Italy, for example).
In view of the recent introduction of “protection of the environment, biodiversity and ecosystems” in Articles 9 and 41 of the Italian Constitution, the topic is of utmost topicality and of considerable importance to visitors.
In particular, the many animal species present in the main city environments are highlighted, providing information on their distribution, habits and role within the urban ecosystem, in order to gain greater awareness for the protection of biodiversity and, more generally, the environment. In addition, advice is given on the correct behavior to adopt when encountering urban wildlife and how to attract them with nests and feeders.
The exhibition is accompanied by a series of educational activities, including guided tours, observation and birdwatching in the villa, and workshops for children and adults conducted in collaboration with Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica LIPU Roma, Città del sole and Swarovski Optik Italia.
The exhibition, curated by Gina Ingrassia, is promoted by Roma Culture, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali realized by Pandion ed. and Inmagina under the patronage of the Italian League for the Protection of Birds - Lipu.
