From May 31 to September 8, 2019, the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan’s Piazza Scala is hosting the exhibition From Clay to Algorithm. Art and Technology. From the Collections of Intesa Sanpaolo and the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art to the Gallerie d’Italia in Milan, which aims to analyze the relationship between technology, human subjectivity and art.

The term technology (from téchne) refers to the body of knowledge through which science is applied to create tools that are useful to society, such as tools, machines, devices for transportation, communication, or for use in warfare.

Curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Marcella Beccaria, with the general coordination of Gianfranco Brunelli, the exhibition is proposed in this perspective as a path based on unseen dialogues and intentionally non-chronological: from ancient Greek vases to works by international contemporary artists, delving into the ways in which artists from different eras have related to technology, its fascination, utopias and demons, anticipating or reflecting radical social and cultural changes.

The works on display are part of Intesa Sanpaolo ’s collections and those of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea.

Collateral events are also planned during the exhibition, such as guided tours for adults and Musei Lombardia subscribers, family activities, and philosophy workshops for children in collaboration with the Ludosofici association.
