Fragmentations: minimal landscapes by Federico Seppi on display in Trento.

Young Trentino artist Federico Seppi is featured in a solo exhibition at Trento's Boccanegra Gallery, titled "Fragmentations" and running from Feb. 3 to March 19, 2022.

From Feb. 3 to March 19, 2022, Boccanegra Gallery in Trento hosts Frammentazioni, a solo exhibition by young Federico Seppi (Trento, 1990), an artist who has been investigating, since the beginning of his artistic research, places and times in which nature is transformed. Sometimes it is natural events, other times it is the human trace that leaves its mark. In sculptures and two-dimensional works, Federico Seppi gives visibility to the phenomena of the universe by transforming them into apparitions.

From the small landscapes that arise as minimal travel notes, the artist narrates the idea of nature appearing as a mystical vision. These notes arise during travels, during his moving through different countries, as an intimate discovery of the environment. The drawings are simplified, sometimes almost abstract traces, natural views reduced to a sign complexity, preciously enclosed in frames made by the artist himself on nineteenth-century casts. Shadows and light overlap, creating, where the graphic sign is denser, an almost palpable presence.

In the exhibition, wall sculptures dedicated to the movement of broken ice and the falling drop carry with them the “skin” of mountain elements. The glacier(Glacier Due Forni) is itself a metaphor for existence and its metamorphosis, while the wood, in its fibers embellished with silvering, traces the map of the earth, a subtle texture that seems to erode the surface giving rise to a movement of concentric waves(Minimal Signs) or kaleidoscopic fragmentations(Abstractions).

Federico Seppi, from Trentino, enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in the Painting course in 2011. He graduated in 2014 with honors in Sculpture with Mario Airò discussing a thesis entitled Materia viva, delving into the poetics of materials in the representation of the binomial Art and Ecology. Between 2015 and 2016 he took the Sculpture and Installation course at Cadriff Metropolitan University. In 2015 he participated in the group exhibition Nature, Art and Ecology at MART Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, Galleria Civica. In 2019 he participated in the group exhibition Materia Prima at Palazzo Aliprandini in Livo (Val di Non). The same year the project E(U)nglish Lawn is selected for the London is Open residency and presented at the Estorick collection of Modern Art in London. In 2021 he was selected by GNAM, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome (on the occasion of the ninth edition of Level 0, the format of ArtVerona, Verona, and Artissima, Turin, for the promotion of young artists). Federico Seppi with his works aspires to redefine the natural universe through a constant physical reappropriation of the original elements: attributing to each element a symbolic valence and a spiritual meaning. His works arise from the dialogue between spirituality and science, the relations between East and West, and the transformation between nature and artifice.

Information about the exhibition can be found on the gallery’s website.
