Until Nov. 13, 2022, the Fortress of Bard is hosting the exhibition The Gran Paradiso: photographic and scientific research, set up in the Cantine rooms. Curated by Enrico Peyrot, photographer and historian of photography, and Michele Freppaz, professor at the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences, University of Turin, who handled the scientific part, the exhibition investigates theglacial and periglacial area between the valleys of Cogne, Valsavarenche, Rhêmes Valley, Valgrisenche, Soana Valley and Orco Valley.
The exhibition constitutes the third stage of the project L’Adieu des glaciers: photographic and scientific research, produced by the Fortress of Bard, which since 2020 has presented an iconographic and scientific journey among the glaciers of the main Four-Thousanders in the Aosta Valley to tell the story of their transformations. The project is intended to be an in-depth study around Mount Rosa, Mount Cervino, Gran Paradiso, and Mont Blanc and is being developed over four years, one for each physical and cultural reality connotative of the Alpine region, thanks to the support of many organizations and institutions. After the Monte Rosa and Monte Cervino groups, the journey to discover the history and health of Italian glaciers continues with this focus exhibition entirely dedicated to Gran Paradiso, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Park.
