Florence: two exhibitions for visitors with visual disabilities. You can touch works by Michelangelo and Giambologna!

In Florence, on the occasion of Amico Museo, two exhibitions for visitors with visual impairments: you can touch the works!

In Florence, visitors with visual impairments will be able to touch the works of art on display at the Bargello Museum s and the Museum of Palazzo Davanzati. This initiative, which is part of the Amico Museo enhancement campaign, consists of equipping blind people with the same latex gloves used by restorers that will be handed out at the ticket office and with which they will be able to touch the works of art, giving disabled visitors all the relevant tactile information.

“The Essential is Invisible to the Eyes” is the exhibition that will be held at the Bargello Museums on May 31, June 7 and June 21.The tactile experience will offer visitors the chance to learn about some of the greatest masterpieces of sculpture from the 15th to the 17th century, including works by Michelangelo, Giambologna, and Bartolomeo Ammannati; different themes, subjects, styles and materials will help portray extremely fascinating figures and artistic fields. In addition, the itinerary will be enriched with a sort of “multisensory workshop,” dedicated to one of the rooms that is normally excluded from the itineraries intended for the blind and visually impaired, such as the Sala degli Avori.

First, through the tactile experience, visitors will be invited to “touch to see.”With the help of a tactile copy of Adam ’s eburneous tablet in the Earthly Paradise and a tactile book, it will be possible for them to touch and see what, in original, is kept in a display case; this experience will be followed by the aural/auditory one, “hearing in order to imagine,” in which, through listening to some pieces of ancient music and reading short literary passages, an attempt will be made to evoke the images of life and customs represented in the ivories of the Carrand collection.

At the Museum of Palazzo Davanzati, on the other hand, “Voices, smells and suggestions of an ancient Florentine dwelling” will be held on June 14 alone. The tour itinerary in this case, too, will be twofold; first, visitors will be guided through the history and structure of this fascinating medieval Florentine dwelling; at the same time, they will experience the materials and magnificent collections housed in it.

Moving, in fact, through the domestic environments (halls, studies, bedrooms, kitchen and lavatories) of this unique “house” and through the varied collections of furniture, majolica, lace and sculptures contained therein, they will try to evoke, accompanied by the smells and sounds of the past, the comforts and ways of life of an ancient Florentine noble family.

The visit is free for visually impaired and accompanying persons, but reservations are required by calling 055/294883.
The number of participants per group will be limited to a maximum of 4 people plus accompanying persons.
