Florence remembers 50 years of Woodstock with photographs by Amalie Rothschild

In 1969, from August 15 to 18, the Woodstock festival was held in Bethel, New York state. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic music event, Florence will host the exhibition Woodstock and the Others from Oct. 3 to Nov. 3, 2019, in the exhibition space of the Regional Council of Tuscany named after Carlo Azeglio Campi.

The exhibition is a display of the photographs of Amalie R. Rothschild (1916 - 2001), an American-born and Florentine-adopted photographer, and aims to celebrate both Woodstock and the other music festivals that took place that year: the Newport Festival (July 1969), the Isle of Wight Festival (September 1969), the Rolling Stones ’ live show at New York’s Madison Square Garden (Nov. 27, 1969) and the various concerts at the Fillmore East (all year round).

The exhibition will be divided into two sections, one dedicated to Woddstock, which will display photos of the various singers and musicians who participated there such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Santana and the Who; the second section will be devoted to the aforementioned festivals, the “others,” precisely.

Conceived by Marco Ferri, also curator along with Rothschild itself, the exhibition will run from Oct. 3 to Nov. 3.
