Florence, great masters of the 20th century return to exhibition at Casamonti Collection

The Roberto Casamonti Collection brings works from the first part of its collection back on display, kicking off a series of dates with the great masters of the 20th century. It begins with Giorgio de Chirico's Hector and Andromache, on view from Feb. 8 to 15, 2025.

Florence returns to celebrate the great masters of the 20th century with a new exhibition at the Roberto Casamonti Collection. Beginning Feb. 8, 2025, Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni will reopen its doors to works from the first part of the collection, the part that includes masterpieces created from the early 20th century to the 1960s. This inaugurates a series of events that, on a monthly basis, will return to the public paintings and sculptures kept in storage. The first meeting will feature Giorgio de Chirico, the master of Metaphysical Painting, with the exhibition of Hector and Andromache, an oil on canvas from 1950, on view until Feb. 15, 2025.

The initiative was created with the intention of enriching and expanding the dialogue between the two sections of the collection, which currently focuses on works from 1960 to the present day. The masterpieces of the early 20th century will thus return to dialogue with those of the second and 21st centuries, offering visitors an experience of continuity and comparison between different eras and artistic languages.

The Roberto Casamonti Collection, which opened on March 25, 2018, is housed on the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni, a Renaissance architectural masterpiece designed by Baccio d’Agnolo. It is one of the most important private art collections in Italy, the result of the passion and commitment of international art dealer Roberto Casamonti. The collection is divided into two sections: the first includes works created between the early twentieth century and the early 1960s, while the second brings together works from 1960 to the present day. Currently, the exhibition offers an extraordinary artistic panorama, with works by such masters as Alighiero Boetti, Mario Schifano, Joan Mirò, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Christo. The initiative to bring masterpieces from the first part of the collection back to the exhibition is part of a dynamic vision of the exhibition, which aims to engage the public with new opportunities for discovery and insight.

The return of Hector and Andromache marks the beginning of a series of appointments in which, each month, a work will be selected and brought back to the rooms, allowing the entire richness of the collection to be rediscovered over time. This project is also made possible thanks to the participation of Casamonti’s friends and family members, who over the years have shared his passion for art and have contributed to augment the collection with unpublished works and loans. The goal is to create an ever-evolving exhibition itinerary capable of offering new keys to interpretation and connections between works and artists.

For those who wish to visit the Roberto Casamonti Collection and discover the first masterpiece of this new exhibition cycle, opening hours are as follows: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, you can visit the official website www.collezionerobertocasamonti.com or contact the secretariat at 055 602030 and by email at info@collezionerobertocasamonti.com and segreteria@collezionerobertocasamonti.com.

With this initiative, Florence once again confirms itself as a center of excellence for art and culture, returning to the public the opportunity to admire up close the masterpieces that have marked the history of the 20th century.
