From May 12 to October 1, 2023, the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in Rome will host the exhibition Arnaldo Pomodoro. The Great Theater of Civilizations, curated by Lorenzo Respi and Andrea Viliani in collaboration with the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation.

The partnership between Fondazione Arnaldo Pom odoro and FENDI kicked off with the creation of a major exhibition event dedicated to Arnaldo Pomodoro.

Conceived specifically for the venue of the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in Rome, the exhibition is articulated as a large “theater” simultaneously real and mental, memorial and imaginative. Presented is a selection of works from the late 1950s to the present, as well as documentary materials, mostly previously unpublished, intended to explore in particular the relationship in the artist’s biography with the visual and performing arts. Indeed, it is here that the evanescent traces of possible “civilizations,” archaic, ancient, modern, or even just fantastic, emerge. In their interweaving they return an inexhaustible archaeology and a continuous refounding of our knowledge, our imaginaries, our conception of time and space, history and myth, and our relationship with other species and nature.

In the exhibition path, reality and utopia, sign and archetype, matter and vision, three-dimensionality of the work and two-dimensionality of the document, sharing in public space and personal research conducted in the studio and archive are integrated in a continuum, in which the interior and exterior of the building, from its angular boundaries to the roof, also merge together.
