Faenza's MIC pays tribute to Gio Ponti with an exhibition on the works of five ceramic companies

From Sept. 14 to Oct. 6, 2024, the MIC in Faenza will showcase the work of five major ceramic companies presenting surfaces designed by internationally prominent designers.

From September 14 to October 6, 2024, the exhibition Superfici d’Autore returns to the MIC - Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza with a tribute to Gio Ponti (Milan, 1891 - 1979). Corresponding with two of the most important fairs dedicated to ceramics in Italy, the MIC showcases the works of five major ceramic companies presenting surfaces designed by designers of international importance. The 2024 edition is developed as an appendix from the exhibition Gio Ponti. Ceramics 1922-1967, running at MIC Faenza until Oct. 13, and brings to the exhibition some surfaces designed by Gio Ponti himself along with works influenced by the great Italian architect. The exhibition is made possible thanks to the support of Cersaie, Sacmi and Tecna, under the patronage of the Directorate General for Education, Research and Cultural Institutes, the Emilia Romagna Region, the Municipality of Faenza, and the Union of Municipalities of Romagna Faentina.

Ceramica Bardelli rediscovers a series of designs designed by Gio Ponti in the 1920s and 1950s: the La casa degli efebi collection, a decoration for ceramic objects; the Le donne sui fiori series a set of female figures lying among flowers; the La conversazione classica collection, a classically inspired decoration that was made on ornamental vases; the Costumi series that consists of 24 different subjects selected from the sketches designed by Gio Ponti; and Centolettere a selection of the letters Gio Ponti made in the 1950s. Ceramica Francesco De Maio exhibits three of its collections, Blu Ponti, Puntini and Carpet, which testify to excellence and innovation in the field of hand-decorated ceramics. LEA Ceramiche showcases the innovative research of Pigmenti, born from the collaboration with Ferruccio Laviani, and of the Segni su Pigmenti capsules signed by Laviani himself. Pigmenti interprets the primal function of ceramics in 12 different color variants with contemporary tones, Segni su Pigmenti superimposes imperfect lines and brushstrokes that become textures with material relief.

Instead,Marazzi , rediscovers Triennale, design Gio Ponti - Alberto Rosselli. In 1960, Marazzi entrusts the Ponti Fornaroli Rosselli studio with the design of a new ceramic tile. Gio Ponti, with the contribution of Alberto Rosselli, conceives a simple, elegant and “four times curved” design piece. Triennale, a name inspired by the 12th International Exhibition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Milan where it was presented, resembles the piece of a children’s puzzle and immediately became an icon of Italian design. Mutina presents the new Adagio and Osso & Bottone collections designed by Frenchman Ronan Bouroullec seen in preview at Milan Design Week 2024. The silhouettes of Osso & Bottone are the result of an optical vibration capable of blurring the original geometries and opening a dialogue between the collection and the natural world it faces. Adagio is a project consisting of a series of ceramic modules designed to be assembled to generate scenic wall sculptures.
