Extended until March 24, 2019, is the exhibition BANKSY This is not a photo opportunity, held at Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence. The exhibition is curated by Gianluca Marziani and Stefano S. Antonelli and is promoted and produced by MetaMorfosi Associazione Culturale, with the patronage of Florence Metropolitan City and the support of the Region of Tuscany and the collaboration of Mus.e.

Visitors can therefore continue to admire the most famous images of the mysterious British street-artist, such as the Balloon Girl silkscreen, one of his most famous images depicting a little girl with a red balloon in her hand, recently the focus of worldwide attention for its sensational self-destruction that occurred soon after it was auctioned for more than 1 million euros.

The celebrated street artist, originally from Bristol but whose identity is still shrouded in mystery, tackles the themes of capitalism, war and social control in his works, staging the contradictions and paradoxes of our time. For the first time, an exhibition examines and analyzes Banksy’s original images within a comprehensive semantic framework that vehicles their origins, references, relationships between elements, implications and planes of relevance. The exhibition is accompanied by an infographic on the artist’s chronology, extensive historical fact sheets on the works with photographic documentation, the original “black books,” original posters from his exhibitions, and a selection of videos.

In addition, MUS.E, with theUNESCO Office of the City of Florence, on the occasion of the temporary exhibition, is offering the Think tank workshop, which draws its inspiration from Banksy’s icons to reflect on what puts our world at risk and how each person can work on it himself. On Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the public is invited to take part in an activity in which art and sustainability are intertwined: participants will be able to highlight the multiple aspects related to sustainability (social, environmental, economic, ethical) and elaborate in a personal form images and goals of a sustainable future, correlating them to their own daily lives.

The workshop is open to youth and adults and will last 1h15.

Costs: admission 10 euros, reduced 6 euros for 18-25 year olds and university students; free for under 18, tour guides and journalists; disabled and accompanying persons, ICOM, ICOMOS and ICCROM members + activity 2 euros for Metropolitan City residents, 4 euros for non-Metropolitan City residents.
