Today, at 5 p.m., in the Sala d’Ercole of the Palazzo d’Accursio in Bologna, "Wolfango disegnatore," an exhibition open until Jan. 21 and dedicated to the graphic activity of Wolfango (in full: Wolfango Peretti Poggi, Bologna, 1926 - 2017), will be inaugurated. The exhibition will be a look at the immense production of drawings by the artist - who passed away last January at the age of 90 - making visible to the public about a hundred works, many of them unpublished, spanning the entire span of his life.
The exhibition is divided into periods, starting with a sheet from 1932, in which a small Wolfango, barely 6 years old, already reveals his vocation for art. It continues with a nineteenth-century-inspired phase, from 1940 to 1945, and then moves on to the 1950s, marked by works in which a strong Morandi influence shines through, but also by some rare sheets of evident informal inspiration in 1957 and 1958. Then there are two sections devoted to preparatory drawings for the prestigious edition of The Divine Comedy, which Wolfango illustrated from 1963 to 1968, and to drawings from 1964 and 1965 for the book Jesus Today. Having reached his own stylistic definition in 1968, Wolfango made large charcoal drawings for many years, which are the focal point of the exhibition. Closing, a more strictly family space with a series of drawings entitled “Family Album - The Past is the Present.”
Studied by Wolfango’s daughter, Alighiera Peretti Poggi, who also curates the catalog, the exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by Minerva, with a preface by Tomaso Montanari and an essay by Eugenio Riccomini.
