Everyday Life. An exhibition on global and contemporary socioeconomic phenomena and changes at the Trento Civic Gallery

From May 30 to September 1, 2019, the Trento Civic Gallery is presenting the exhibition Everyday Life. Global Economy and the Contemporary Image.

From May 30 to September 1, 2019, the Trento Civic Gallery is hosting the exhibition Everyday Life. Global Economy and the Contemporary Image, declining the theme of the 2019 edition of the Trento Festival of Economics : globalization, nationalism and representation.

Curated by Gabriele Lorenzoni and Carlo Sala, the exhibition aims to investigate socioeconomic phenomena and changes through the most recent photographic research, video installations and topic-specific interventions.
On display are photographs made in the 1990s, at the dawn of the globalization process, by four international masters, whose works belong to the Mart’s collections: Andreas Gursky, Fischli & Weiss, Shirin Neshat, Wolfgang Tillmans.

Today for the first time in history everyone is prosumer, creator and consumer of the visual magma circulating in the digital world in real time. In this sense, the exhibition proposes a poetic and at the same time irreverent investigation of the present, between post-image, hypervision and expanded photography.

In addition, the exhibition focuses on the work of Italian artists who analyze contradictions, stereotypes, and preconstituted imaginaries from a postcontemporary perspective. These include Adrian Paci, Alessandro Calabrese, Brigitte Niedermair, Daniele Girardi, Dido Fontana, Discipula, Filippo Berta, Filippo Minelli, Giovanni Morbin, Hannes Egger, Ingrid Hora, Nicolò Degiorgis, Paolo Ciregia, and The Cool Couple.

Everyday Life describes urban landscapes and natural spaces, processes of gentrification and wandering. The reflection dwells especially on the theme of boundaries and thresholds, on the very definition and possible use of the image. Communication and forms of persuasion become subjects of study. The result is a visual anthropology that makes glocal one of its peculiarities.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Mart and the Trento Festival of Economics. During the days of the festival, from May 30 to June 2, 2019, admission to the exhibition will be free. Also on Sunday, June 2, there will be an opportunity to take a guided tour of the exhibition at a cost of 2 euros, without reservation.
