From November 6, 2022 to February 10, 2023, the Harry Bertoia Gallery in Pordenone presents the exhibition Elliott Erwitt. My View of the World. Unseen and celebrated photographs, curated by Alessandra Mauro.
Presented for the first time in Italy and promoted by the City of Pordenone with CRAF - Centro Ricerca e Archiviazione della Fotografia and Contrasto, the exhibition aims to pay homage to the talent and long career of Elliott Erwitt (Paris, 1928). Among the most innovative and original gazes of the post-World War IIperiod, throughout his career Erwitt has traveled the world, observed it with participation and critical gaze, wanted to know and interpret it, without ever losing the desire to be surprised by the thousands of curious, tragic or tender aspects in which life has manifested itself in front of him and his camera.
His images have become iconic, but on display will be more than just the photos that made him famous over time. Elliott Erwitt has returned to consult his archives in search of those images that for various reasons have never been published but deserve to be rediscovered.
Forty photographs divided into two groups will be exhibited at the Harry Bertoia Gallery, a selection of “new” photographs, then collected in the volume Ritrovate, non perso (Contrasto, 2021), which presents Erwitt’s unpublished, compared with the great iconic images that have built his author’s fortune and fame. Together, these two sections offer the opportunity to get to know the gaze of a master of photography who has made his point of view, always ironic, passionate but also sensitive and sympathetic to the last, an unmistakable style.
Hours: Thursday through Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m.
Ticket 5 euros.
