From July 6 to September 1, 2019, Palazzo Acquaviva in Atri hosts Transfiguration mode, a solo exhibition by Enrico Tealdi (Cuneo, 1976), curated by Antonio Zimarino. The exhibition, as part of the palimpsest Stills of peace and everyday life, aims to suggest the artist’s ability to transform things, signs, gestures, the presences of reality (whether human or natural) through formal choices capable of making perceived reality “speak” in the terms of psychology, interiority, poetry and soul.

“In Tealdi’s works,” Zimarino explains, “everything seems to sink beyond the surface of the painting everything seems to recede, space expands disproportionately and infinitely within tiny pictorial surfaces. Figures become traces, people and nature become indeterminate, dissolve, relocate to a place beyond the plane of representation. The gaze is driven to wander beyond trying to reconstruct the labile contours of human or natural presences.” The gaze of the observer coincides with that of the artist, so that both disperse within an indeterminable space in search of anchors, trying to define things and presences, but finding only indeterminable depths of color and a few scraps of nature or relationships.

Things, people, the world, relationships blur into a dimension that is already somehow “memorial,” that is inner time, suspended and dilated, made of few colors but an infinite number of tones and shades of the same, all tones tending to “cold” that realize at times, a kind of nebula that never fully conceals, but stands as a kind of veil, ready in its own way, to still reveal some sensible and defined feature or to conceal a reality too complex to define. Tealdi’s world pushes to search for poetry and meaning: through painting, the artist builds his particular visions by giving us back the suggestions of interiority to search for a horizon of meaning, a possible, understandable and shareable value in the experiences of existence.

The exhibition can be visited daily from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 to 10:30 p.m. More information can be found at Stills of peace and everyday life.
