WeGil, the cultural hub of the Lazio Region in the heart of Rome’s Trastevere district, reopens its doors to the public on May 18 and, for the occasion, extends until July 12 the exhibition Elliott Erwitt Icons, the retrospective curated by Biba Giacchetti promoted by the Lazio Region and organized by LAZIOcrea in collaboration with SudEst57, which celebrates one of the greatest masters of contemporary photography. Entrances to the exhibition and the WeGil spaces will be managed in full compliance with the distancing guidelines provided for public places in order to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The exhibition, which opened on Feb. 22, shortly before the start of the health emergency, and was initially scheduled to run until May 17, brings together seventy of Elliott Erwitt’s most famous shots: a cross-section of twentieth-century history and customs as seen through the photographer’s typically ironic gaze, mirroring his surreal and romantic streak.
