From August 30 to September 30, 2019, Laboratorium Venezia, Santa Croce - Calle de Mezo, will host the exhibition Poetry in motion by Korean artist Sobin Park, curated by Thalia Vrachopoulos.
The title of the exhibition refers to the movements the artist makes in space and the song of the same name by Johnny Tillotson, one of the hits of the 1960s. Through Park’s physical movements in space, works of art bordering between performance andvisual art are created: powerful forms made in a very long time and in very large dimensions.
His favorite subjects are the dragon and the female: a representation of Taoist opposites, complementary and simultaneously linked in nature. The darkness of the dragon, created using graphite, stands out against the delicate white paper, translucent skin of the female. The two motifs can also be interpreted as asexual union, while maintaining the deeper meaning of Korean cosmology.
The dragon depicted by the artist is intertwined with a beautiful naked maiden who actively participates in theerotic work, as she does not merely pose passively waiting to be drawn; the female figure in her works plays a leading role.
