Dinosaurs invade Milan ’s Fabbrica del Vapore in an exhibition titled, precisely, "Dinosaur Invasion." On view until Feb. 3, 2019, the exhibition takes the form of a park populated by life-size reconstructions of dinosaurs from theMesozoic era through the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods when the Earth was very different from what it is today and was dominated by dinosaurs, a term coined in 1842 by English paleontologist Richard Owen from the Greek “deinòs,” terrible, and “sàuros,” lizard.
A team of paleontologists gave directions to recreate not only the size but also the movements of the giant prehistoric reptiles: the more than 30 dinosaur specimens, in fact, are animated with sophisticated ANIMATRONICS™ technology.
The exhibition offers the visitor an experience that is intended to be unique, fun and engaging, and that does not neglect the important scientific and educational aspects thanks to the insights into the evolution, classification and habitat of these animals. At the end of the tour, which lasts about an hour, a large area dedicated to Edutainment with interactive games, workshops with an archaeological site built to search for fossils, an experience for all children to enjoy. Adjoining cafeteria for parents to relax. It is possible to visit the trail with the help of audio and video guides or book a guided tour with young paleontologists, who will enrich the experience by narrating the incredible curiosities and major secrets about the fascinating world of dinosaurs.
Renowned popularizer Alessandro Cecchi Paone, who has offered himself as the narrator of the audio and video guides, explains, “The overall media experience, film, television, and exhibition, has confirmed for decades worldwide that dinosaurs are absolutely the best ambassadors of the life sciences especially among the youngest children, elementary school students, and adults who want to recover forgotten notions of biology, zoology, and paleontology. However, it is essential that, as in this exhibition, the reconstructions of the specimens and their ecosystem are accurate and reliable.”
Fabio Gioia, curator of the particular exhibit, says, "The appreciable value of this exhibit is its ability to bring important issues back to the public’s attention. The complex biology that makes our planet unique, its continuous evolution, and issues such as extinctions and sustainability, are topical contents that accompany the visit and stimulate interest especially among young people. The presence of this exhibition in Milan is particularly happy both because of the place that hosts it and because it finds a natural corollary of excellent institutions in the city, including the Museum of Science and Technology and the Civic Museum of Natural History, which has very important sections of Paleontology and where it is possible to deepen and continue the study and scientific and educational experience."
Anna Scavuzzo, deputy mayor of Milan, says, “The Steam Factory confirms itself as a place of experimentation open especially to the young and very young. We are reaping the fruits of the work of these last few years of particular commitment; still wide are the prospects for growth, but we are nevertheless very satisfied. It is exhibitions like this one, capable of combining culture, history and technology in an innovative way, that testify to how the Fabbrica del vapore is an ideal place to open up to the city and invest in creativity.”
