From Oct. 4, 2022, to Jan. 15, 2023, the Museo Riso d’Arte contemporanea e moderna in Palermo will host the exhibition Depero mito presente, created in collaboration with the Mart - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto. Curated by Nicoletta Boschiero, the exhibition aims to explore the present-day relevance of Fortunato Depero (Fondo, 1892 - Rovereto, 1960), among the leading exponents of Futurism, and how much he has influenced art, fashion and design from the 1970s to the present.
The exhibition is also an opportunity to trace the career of the artist, who established himself in painting and theater, applied arts, publishing and advertising. Three important artistic interventions by Depero are highlighted: Balli Plastici 1918; The Devil’s Cabaret 1922; and, finally, advertising in relation to the artist’s stay in New York between 1928 and 1930.
Exhibition within exhibition, a small but valuable appendix is devoted to Depero’s trip to Sicily that took place in 1926 as a guest of his friend Guglielmo Jannelli.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Sicilian Region and the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, in collaboration with the Mart in Rovereto and Palazzo Belmonte Riso.
