Danh Vo on display at the Querini Stampalia in Venice, in dialogue with Park Seo-Bo and Noguchi

Venice's Fondazione Querini Stampalia is hosting, from April 20 to Nov. 27, an exhibition in which one of the world's most celebrated contemporary artists, Danh Vo, places himself in dialogue with two other Asian artists, Park Seo-Bo and Isamu Noguchi.

From April 20 to November 27, 2022, on the occasion of the 59th. International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, in collaboration with White Cube presents an exhibition curated by artist Danh Vo (Ba Ria, 1975) together with Chiara Bertola, head of the institution’s contemporary art program. The exhibition, titled Danh Vo, Isamu Noguchi, Park Seo-Bo, places Danh Vo’s artistic practice in dialogue with the work of Park Seo-Bo (Yecheon, 1931), widely recognized as the initiator of the Korean art movement Dansaekhwa (monochrome painting), and Isamu Noguchi (Los Angeles, 1904 - New York, 1988), a prominent Japanese-born American sculptor, architect, designer and set designer.

The exhibition project entirely embraces the spaces of the historic palace once the private home of the noble Venetian Querini family, which over the years has accumulated a vast collection of works of art, books, and precious objects, constituting an important collection, made available to the community with the establishment of the Foundation in 1869. Known for his sensitivity to space and time, to the concept of personal and collective history, Danh Vo was invited to pervade with his vision the Foundation’s labyrinthine architecture that juxtaposes ancient, modern and contemporary elements in a continuous journey through the centuries.

Describing it as “a vast sculpture” that can from time to time make new encounters and take on new settings, only to be revealed and seen by the visitor, the artist will punctuate the Querini’s spaces with “light” installation interventions that include the Akari lamp, signed by Noguchi, along with a body of his work, much of it made in the Güldenhof studio and farm, north of Berlin. Park Seo-Bo’s work, on the other hand, is on display in a dedicated room and is represented by a set of paintings from the Écriture series, which connect deeply with notions of time, space and matter.

The exhibition is part of the multi-year program Conservare il futuro, conceived and curated by Chiara Bertola for the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, in which contemporary artists are called upon to confront and dialogue with the spaces of the Fondazione, drawing inspiration for new expressions in the sign of vital experimentation.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., ticket office closes at 5:30 p.m., closed Mondays. For all information visit the Fondazione Querini Stampalia website.
