Dancing with Myself at Punta della Dogana


Until December 16, 2018 Punta della Dogana in Venice presents the group exhibition Dancing with myself.

At Punta della Dogana in Venice, the group exhibition"Dancing with myself" is on view until December 16, 2018.

The exhibition, previously presented in Essen in 2016, has been enriched with more than 56 works not shown in the first German version.



The exhibition aims to highlight the importance of the portrait in art from the 1970s to the present and theartist’s self-portrait as the subject of the work.
These portraits are divided over the course of the exhibition into four themes, namely Melancholia, the ironic play of identity, Political Autobiography and Materia Prima.
145 works made with different languages and techniques, such as photography, video, painting, sculpture, and installation to reflect on self-representation.

Present works by Cindy Sherman, Urs Lüthi, Gilbert & George, Rudolf Stingel, Alighiero Boetti, Urs Fischer.

“Dancing with Myself” is curated by Martin Bethenod and Florian Ebner and is a collaboration between the Pinault Collection and Museum Folkwang in Essen.
