The exhibition The Voice of the Adda arrives in Cremona. Leonardo and the Water Civilization. Milan, Cremona, Sondrio, curated by Alberto Martinelli and Fabrizio Trisoglio, which can be visited from January 16 to February 28, 2020, at the Sala degli Alabardieri of Cremona City Hall.
The exhibition celebrates the five-hundredth anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (among the first scientists to realize the importance of the Adda River’s resources) and, and through photographs reproduced on panels, reconstructs the course of the Lombard river. From the headwaters in the Rhaetian Alps, we move on to Valtellina, and on to Cremona, through images of the large hydroelectric facilities of the former Milanese municipalized company, works of industrial archaeology, views and glimpses of the territory and the mountain, naturalistic, technological, agricultural and social context.
The itinerary of the exhibition, which features the presence of authoritative photographers such as Antonio Paoletti, Guglielmo Chiolini, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Francesco Radino, and Luigi Bussolati, ranges from rare images from the second half of the 19th century of the Vismara Fund, to those of the 1930s and 1950s, to the rich Contemporary Fund of the 1980s and the more recent photographic campaigns commissioned by Fondazione Aem. Accompanying it are unpublished cartographic representations from theSondrio Civil Engineering Office and artistic depictions of the middle and lower reaches of the Adda River curated by Albano Marcarini, as well as quotations and literary references dedicated to the territory, culminating with a reflection on the civilization of water and Milan through the fundamental role of the Navigli.
The exhibition, conceived and promoted by Fondazione Aem - A2A Group, highlights the enhancement of the company’s heritage and has the patronage of the Lombardy Region, Cremona City Council, Milan City Council, Sondrio City Council, Museimpresa, Rete Fotografia, Milan and Leonardo.
Following its first exhibition in Milan from Oct. 28 to Dec. 27, 2019, which was a great success, the exhibition will be shown in Sondrio from May 21 to June 26, 2020, in collaboration with local authorities and municipalities. The exhibition is accompanied by a rich catalog with all the images reproduced in the exhibition and texts signed by the curators, Giovanni Valotti President A2A, and Guglielmo Scaramellini professor of Geography at theUniversity of Milan.
