Coming to Palazzo Strozzi, a major exhibition of Jeff Koons' most celebrated and shining works

From October 2, 2021 to January 30, 2022, Palazzo Strozzi in Florence is dedicating a major exhibition to Jeff Koons. Key word will be "shine," luster.

From October 2, 2021 Palazzo Strozzi dedicates a major exhibition to Jeff Koons (York, Pennsylvania, 1955), among the most significant artists in international contemporary art, entitled Shine. The exhibition, curated by Arturo Galansino and Joachim Pissarro, brings to Florence a selection of the artist’s most celebrated works from the mid-1970s to the present.

Loans from the most important collections and major international museums will be on display, proposing as an original key to interpret Jeff Koons’s art the concept of luster, as emphasized by the title itself, understood as a game of ambiguity between splendor and glow, being and appearing.

Jeff Koons finds in the idea of luster a key principle of his innovative sculptures and installations that intend to question our relationship with reality but also the very concept of a work of art. Koons’ works place the viewer in front of a mirror in which to reflect himself and place him at the center of his surroundings. “The artist’s work consists of a gesture with the goal of showing people what their potential is,” the artist said. “It is not about creating an object or an image; everything happens in the relationship with the viewer. That’s where art happens.”

The exhibition, which can be visited until January 30, 2022, is promoted and organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi. Supporters: City of Florence, Tuscany Region, Florence Chamber of Commerce, Fondazione CR Firenze, Palazzo Strozzi Partners Committee. Main partner Intesa Sanpaolo.
