Coming to Milan for the first time, a major exhibition dedicated to Piet Mondrian

For the first time in Milan, at MUDEC, a major exhibition dedicated to Piet Mondrian and his artistic evolution from figuration to abstraction.

For the first time in Milan comes an exhibition entirely dedicated to the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian and his artistic evolution that led him from figuration to abstraction to his unique style that has made him unmistakable throughout the world.

The exhibition entitled Piet Mondrian. From Figuration to Abstraction will be held Nov. 24, 2021 to March 27, 2022 at MUDEC - Museum of Cultures.

Realized thanks to the collaboration of the Kunstmuseum den Haag, which holds the world’s most important collection of Mondrian’s works and has lent sixty works, selected from those by Mondrian and other representative artists of the Hague School, the exhibition is curated by Daniel Koep, Head of Exhibitions, and Doede Hardeman, Head of Collections, with a concept by Kunstmusem Director Benno Tempel.

The exhibition also features other masterpieces from major museums and private collections, and is divided into several thematic sections. A common thread on which the comparison between the works of the early figurative period and those of the abstract period is defined is that of the landscape: a visual and immediate key to the artist’s stylistic evolution, useful for understanding the abstract works of his last period themselves.

A section of the exhibition is also dedicated to De Stijl (or Neoplasticism), the movement born in the Netherlands in 1917 on the initiative of Mondrian himself and Theo van Doesburg and still active on the threshold of the 1930s, which innovated art, architecture and design.
