From September 20, theanthological exhibition of Paolo Icaro, one of the most important figures of Italian art in recent decades, will be on display at the GAM - Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino, open until December 1, 2019.
Curated by Elena Volpato, the exhibition will tell the story of 55 years of his artistic production, from 1964 to 2019, through about fifty works, some of which were created especially for the exhibition.
“The exhibition proposes a reinterpretation of Icarus’ work that intends to show the continuity and evolution of the artist’s poetic thought through the decades; his most characteristic feature, the constant reflection of theartist who ceaselessly reinterprets space and sculpture in the light of a transcendent principle for which the life of forms coincides with the sense of becoming, where the sensible world is illuminated by the vital force of the whole, where nothing is seen in the aseptic and timeless light of thought, but everything is born in the flow of time, everything comes to light in the world kneaded of the universal and the human. It is an exhibition in which the path tends to fulfill and restart on itself, in which creative energies are expressed in a crescendo in which every seed of reflection returns to speak years later with developments of inexhaustible vitality,” said the curator.
Since 1967 Paolo Icaro has been part of GAM’s collections with the work Bicilindrica, a concrete made in 1965; six others of significant historical value have been added in the 2000s, thanks to funds from the City of Turin and the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT.
