Coming soon, Naples' exhibition-tribute to Santiago Calatrava

The Capodimonte Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte is hosting an exhibition-tribute to Santiago Calatrava from December 6, 2019.

From December 6, 2019 to May 10, 2020, the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte presents the exhibition Santiago Calatrava. In the Light of Naples. The exhibition, which runs between the second floor of the Museum and the Cellaio building in the Real Bosco, is intended as a tribute to Santiago Calatrava, architect, engineer, painter, sculptor, designer, and all-around artist, but also aims to illustrate the artist’s love for the city of Naples.

Four hundred works, including sculptures, drawings, maquettes, by Calatrava through which to explore his concept of architecture, a balance between volume and light. With an eclectic spirit, he is constantly searching for this balance that makes him one of the most creative minds of our time.

His most significant architectures include Lyon Airport Station “Saint-Exupéry,” the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York, the Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Mediopadana Station in Reggio Emilia. The exhibition also features sculptures from all his artistic phases made the most varied materials, from ebony, white marble, alabaster, gilded copper, aluminum, black granite to bronze. Ample space will be devoted to drawing, in which the main subjects are trees, bulls and the female nude. The Cellar in the Real Bosco, on the other hand, hosts more than fifty ceramic works in dialogue with the ancient production of the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte. Forty years of artistic activity in which light has always dominated.

The exhibition was strongly desired by Calatrava and enthusiastically welcomed by the director of the Capodimonte Museum and Real Bosco Sylvain Bellenger, co-curator with Robertina Calatrava, the artist’s wife, and fully supported by the Campania Region thanks to European funds POC Complementary Operational Program 2014-2020, organized by Scabec, the regional cultural heritage company, and realized in collaboration with Studio Calatrava.
