Colors of Japan on display at the Chiossone Museum in Genoa

From January 9 to February 16, 2020, the Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art in Genoa is hosting the photography exhibition The Colors of Japan.

From January 9 to February 16, 2020, the photographic exhibition The Colors of Japan will be on display at the Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art in Genoa.

The exhibition is intended as a travelogue through the shots of Fabio Accorrà (Genoa, 1984): from Mount Fuji to the foliage of Nikko, from Hakone Lake to Kyoto’s Kinkakuji Temple to Shinto shrines. Well-known destinations in Japan will be accompanied by images of more unusual but colorfully fascinating destinations. Accorrà’s photographs focus heavily on color, both in landscapes and subjects.

For the exhibition, shots from his book The Colors of Japan and a new series of photographs reinterpreting the editorial project have been selected; the images will be accompanied by travel commentaries by the travel blogger and self-taught photographer and insights into the significance of colors in Japanese culture.

The Chiossone Museum holds the most significant collection of Japanese art in Italy and is one of the most important in Europe; the collection was born thanks to Edoardo Chiossone (1833-1898) who spent a long period in Japan. This was later donated to the city of Genoa. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum hosts, as in this case, exhibitions to popularize contemporary Japanese culture and art.

The exhibition is curated by Aurora Canepari.
