Claudine Drai returns to Venice with a brand new project involving Wim Wenders

After 2017, French artist Claudine Drai returns to Venice for the 59th Art Biennale with an unprecedented project involving Wim Wenders.

After the success of the exhibition Le lien des mondes in 2017, French artist Claudine Drai (Paris, 1951) returns to Venice to coincide with the 59th Art Biennale with an unprecedented project involving Wim Wenders with a film dedicated to the artist being screened at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi and ACP - Art Capital Partners Palazzo Franchetti, in the spaces of the second piano nobile, which now also houses the Morandiana Library.

As in 2017, when the exhibition project was based on the interaction between contemporary art, poetry, culinary art and haute couture by bringing together Michelin-starred chef Guy Martin, fashion designer Hubert Barrère and writer Olivier Kaeppelin alongside the artist, on this occasion the exhibition is also rich in contaminations between different worlds.

In conjunction with the exhibition at the ACP - Art Capital Partners - Palazzo Franchetti venue in Venice, from April 22 to May 15, 2022, Présence, an installation created by German director Wim Wenders that explores Claudine Drai’s artistic universe, will be presented to the public for the first time at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi (April 22 screening at 5 p.m. and April 23 with two 35-minute screenings at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., admission subject to availability).

The installation shot in 3D between 2020 and 2021 aims to explore Claudine Drai’s artistic universe through an evocative visual narrative. Wim Wenders was mesmerized and moved by Claudine Drai’s work when he first met her. He perceived her art as distinctly different from anything he had ever seen, at the same time so emotional and evocative. The director thus felt a desire to learn more about the mysterious spiritual realm made mainly of paper; on the other hand, Claudine Drai felt she could trust Wim Wenders with her fragile and poetic world. In their subsequent talks and meetings, they decided to venture together going beyond a simple vision, giving birth to a common creation, different from any cinematic category and devoid of existing rules or art forms.

The exhibition created by ACP - Art Capital Partners in collaboration with the Clavé Fine Art gallery is intended to be a first glimpse into the world of Claudine Drai.
