After his success in Rimini at the Surgeon’s Domus and in Gela at the Regional Archaeological Museum, Alessandro La Motta ’s works also arrive in Lentini (Syracuse), at Palazzo Beneventano, with the exhibition Dalle dee madri ai miti della Rinascita (From Mother Goddesses to the Myths of Rebirth ), which will display the Romagnolo artist’s polymateric paintings from July 7 to 30 (presentation on Friday 7 at 6 p.m. at the Regional Archaeological Museum in Lentini, while the vernissage at Palazzo Beneventano will be held at 8 p.m:30).
Alessandro La Motta, starting from the classical world, revisits thearchaeology of Sicily in a contemporary key with paintings that pay homage to ancient Greco-Roman mythology, with particular attention to the figures of Demeter, Persephone and Hades, who refer to the cycle of the seasons (and, consequently, of time), but who are also intimately linked to the land that hosts the exhibition: According to myth, in fact, Persephone, daughter of Demeter (the goddess of agriculture and harvests) was abducted by Hades, god of the underworld, on the shores of Lake Pergusa, near Enna. With his painting that seeks to evoke the votive statues, ancient terracottas and simulacra of classical mythology, Alessandro La Motta continues his confrontation with archaeology that has characterized much of his production.
“Alessandro La Motta’s language,” writes Giorgio Franco, curator of the exhibition, in the catalog, "becomes a means of evocative bravura, of the ability to stage artifacts and myths, from which he draws and renders inspiration not only in terms of content but also in terms of materiality itself. Archaeology benefits, providing immense amounts of information and evidence, as scrupulous as it is necessary; Art shakes, returning to the passengers of Life a participated emotional moment."
The exhibition, which can be visited during the opening hours of Palazzo Beneventano (info: www.palazzobeneventanolentini.com), was organized under the patronage of the Region of Sicily, the Municipality of Lentini, Italia Nostra section of Lentini, with the contribution of the Syracuse Regional Pole for Archaeological Sites and Museums, and with the support of Banca Generali, Decor Center Vacante and Lions Club Lentini.
