The Roberto Casamonti Collection continues to offer the public an ever-changing journey through 20th-century art. Following the success of the initiative inaugurated in February 2025, which saw the return of Hector and Andromache (1950) by Giorgio de Chirico (Volos, 1888 - Rome, 1978), in March the exhibition will be enriched with two new protagonists: Massimo Campigli (Berlin, 1895 - Saint-Tropez, 1971) and Mario Tozzi (Fossombrone, 1895 - Saint-Jean-du-Gard, 1979). Two of the most significant works by the two masters of the Italian 20th century will be back on display in the rooms of Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni in Florence, home of the Collection, for a limited period. From March 8 to 15, 2025, the public will be able to admire Donne ai tavolini (1952), Campigli’s iconic oil on canvas, while from March 19 to 29 it will be the turn of Il pittore (1931) by Tozzi. The event is part of a long-standing project designed to enhance the first part of Roberto Casamonti’s collection, the one that includes works created from the early 20th century to the 1960s. To allow visitors to rediscover these masterpieces, the exhibition itinerary is periodically enriched by internal loans: paintings, kept in storage, are selected and brought back to the exhibition in a continuous dialogue with the second part of the collection, dedicated to art from 1960 to the present day.
The initiative takes place within the rooms of the Roberto Casamonti Collection, housed in the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni, an architectural jewel of the Florentine Renaissance signed by Baccio d’Agnolo. Opened on March 25, 2018, the collection brings together an exceptional selection of Italian and international works, divided into two chronological sections. The first part includes masterpieces created from the early 20th century to the early 1960s, while the second embraces artistic production from 1960 to the 21st century. Among the artists currently on display are prominent names such as Alighiero Boetti, Mario Schifano, Joan Miró, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Christo. Behind this operation is the unwavering commitment of Roberto Casamonti, an internationally renowned gallery owner and passionate collector, who over the years has built a museum itinerary capable of telling the story of modern and contemporary art with a dynamic approach. The growth of the collection is the result of a network of relationships involving artists, collectors and scholars. Friends and family members of Casamonti himself have contributed over time to enrich the exhibition with selected works, giving rise to an ever-evolving project.
