Campari Gallery's first exhibition in collaboration with Magnum Photos: it is dedicated to the world of bars

Galleria Campari presents its first exhibition produced in collaboration with Magnum Photos. Ninety photographs from the 1930s to the early 2000s chronicling the world of the bar.

From October 4, 2023 to April 30, 2024, Galleria Campari in Sesto San Giovanni (Milan) will host the exhibition Bar Stories on Camera. Galleria Campari / Magnum Photos, curated by Galleria Campari. This is the first exhibition realized by Galleria Campari in collaboration with Magnum Photos.

Visitors will be able to see ninety photographs from the 1930s to the early 2000s that chronicle the world of the bar through forty-eight images from the Galleria CampariHistorical Archives and forty-two shots by twenty-four international photographers from the Magnum Photos agency, including Robert Capa, Elliott Erwitt, Martin Parr and Ferdinando Scianna.

The exhibition will be divided into three thematic sections - Sharing Moments, Bar Campari, The Icons - in which images will be presented that aim to construct a narrative of stories, rituals and characters from Italy and the world. The collection of images from the Galleria Campari Archive and the shots of the great photographers of Magnum Photos aim to create a narrative that explores the theme at 360°, through the lens of time.Through a dialogue between different media, media, eras and imagery, all the multifaceted vitality of the world of the bar in a unique historical period will thus be restored, in an exploration of its social connotation as a place of meeting, aggregation, leisure and cultural exchange in which Campari has been a protagonist since 1860.

A fourth exhibition section, Campari Memories, will then bring together a large selection of cookbooks and books on cocktails from the late 19th century to the 2000s, as well as original objects and ephemera related to the bar, some of which have never been exhibited before: menus, letterheads, visibility signs, glasses, mixing tools, posters and vintage advertising objects.

Hours: Every weekend from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
