Through August 18, 2024, the Brooklyn Museum in New York presents the exhibition Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm. While the Beatles captivated millions, founding member Paul McCartney was capturing it all with his Pentax camera. Traversing from England to New York City, following in the footsteps of the “boys” sixty years ago, the photo exhibition aims to transport visitors to the Beatlemania of 1963-64, when the band’s first American tour skyrocketed them to superstardom. More than 250 photos of Paul McCartney, recently resurfaced from his archives, reveal his unique perspective. Many of the images vibrate with the electricity of 1960s New York City.
Presented alongside video clips and archival material, the photographs not only highlight McCartney’s artistic versatility but are also personal and historical documents. They show the intensity of the Beatles’ tours as the Fab Four were dragged from concerts to hotels and through the streets, chased by fans and paparazzi. The images show McCartney and his bandmates John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr at a time when their lives were undergoing irrevocable changes.
The exhibition is included with museum admission.
