From March 13 to July 12, 2020, Palazzo Albergati in Bologna is hosting the exhibition Monet and the Impressionists, which showcases a group of works arriving from the Musée Marmottan in Paris in the Emilia capital. Fifty-seven works will be on view to the public at Palazzo Albergati: these include works by Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Corot, Alfred Sisley, Gustave Caillebotte, Berthe Morisot, Eugène Boudin, Camille Pissarro, and Paul Signac. Several of the works coming to Bologna are leaving for the first time the Paris museum, known for its conspicuous collection of Impressionist masterpieces. The intent of the exhibition is precisely to trace the evolution ofImpressionism.
Works that the public will be able to see include, for example, a canvas from the Water Lilies series and Europe’s Bridge. Saint-Lazare Station by Monet, Degas’ Portrait of Madame Ducros, Renoir’s Portrait of Julie Manet, Renoir’s Seated Girl with White Hat, and Manet’s Portrait of Berthe Morisot Lying Down. The exhibition is curated by Marianne Mathieu, scientific director of the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris.
