From Sept. 26 to Nov. 25, 2018, the Museum of the Monumental Complex of Santa Maria della Vita(Bologna) will host "Dynamics of Art," an exhibition showcasing the photographs of Beatrice M. Serpieri.
The photos on display illustrate the sculptures of great Italian artists such as Niccolò dell’Arca, Antonio Canova, Pietro Tenerani and Adolfo Wildt. In particular, the exhibition focuses on Niccolò dell’Arca’sLamentation over the Dead Christ, the celebrated terracotta masterpiece composed of seven statues, kept to the right of the high altar of Santa Maria della Vita.
Graziano Campanini, curator of the exhibition and head of Santa Maria della Vita, explains: "The faces, the hands, ’the stone scream’ of Niccolò’s ’endlessly weeping’ Marys are investigated down to the tiniest details, right down to showing us the teeth of the screaming mouths and tongues, right down to showing us the wrinkles on St. John the Baptist ’s face and all his shaggy curls, right down to showing us Mary Magdalene ’s robes disheveled by the wind embroidering on the veils and cloaks waves of pain as if they were spreading through the air around."
The works (made in digital print on vinyl film and applied on large sheets of translucent solid methacrylate) become real photo-sculptures that dialogue with the external context in a continuous becoming and three-dimensional vision.
“Dinamiche d’Arte” is promoted by Fondazione Carisbo and Genus Bononiae.Musei nella città and is accompanied by a catalog published by Pendragon in a bilingual volume accompanied by critical essays by curator Graziano Campanini, and by Jadranka Bentini and Sandro Parmeggiani, art critics. Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Last admission one hour before closing.
