At the close of 2018, the Galleria d’Arte Maggiore in Bologna offers a major retrospective designed to celebrate its first forty years of activity: it is an exhibition entirely dedicated to Giorgio Morandi, an artist who has been followed and promoted with constant attention by the gallery’s founders, Franco and Roberta Calarota.
Director Alessia Calarota has curated this important exhibition that features a selection of the artist’s oils, watercolors, drawings and etchings in order to give back a complete portrait of him, a window overlooking his intimate and familiar world: from the famous still lif es to flower pots to solitary landscapes. Morandi’s art reveals a painting suspended between reality and abstraction and is still a source of inspiration for contemporary artists today.
This retrospective is the latest chapter in a long history of exhibitions that the Galleria d’Arte Maggiore has dedicated to Morandi, both in its historic venue in Bologna and in the more recently opened one in Milan, where an exhibition of etchings has just concluded.
The exhibition, entitled Giorgio Morandi. A Family History, will be on view from December 20, 2018 to February 16, 2019.
