Bologna, Genus Bononiae dedicates an exhibition-show to the life and works of Antonio Vivaldi

Vivaldi. MyLife, My Music is the title of the new exhibition scheduled at Palazzo Fava in Bologna from May 24 to November 3, 2019. This is an unusual exhibition for the Carraccian rooms of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of Genus Bononiae. Museums in the City, which for the first time is hosting a large immersive show to tell the life and works of Antonio Vivaldi (Venice, 1678 - Vienna, 1741), one of the world’s best-known and most performed composers, in a new way.

The exhibition-show, produced by Emotional Experiences S.r.l. and Genus Bononiae. Museums in the City, aims to tell the story of the great composer to a cross-section of audiences, from classical music enthusiasts to anyone who would like to explore such an extraordinary existence as that of the author of The Four Seasons. Between spectacular images, videomapping projections that break through the walls creating new architecture, freely reconstructed sets and environments, and immersive music, the exhibition itinerary tells the human and artistic story of the “Red Priest” (as he was called because of his tawny hair). From his childhood to his priesthood, from his years teaching music at theOspedale della Pietà in Venice, where the city’s orphans were housed, to his international successes, to the oblivion that covered his music for nearly two centuries and the rediscovery of his work by Ezra Pound: a veritable whirlwind of emotions in which art and life are inextricably intertwined.

“Vivaldi is a fascinating character and one of the great masters of music, but his life is little known,” says Fabio Roversi-Monaco, president of Genus Bononiae. “The profoundly human dimension with which he is told in this show exhibition restores the man and brings him closer to everyone, not only to the audience of classical works enthusiasts and scholars. The visitor will be fascinated by the ability of technology to show his music, through images.”

If it is the voice of Anna Maria, a little orphan girl from the Ospedale della Pietà, that accompanies the visitor through the audio guide in the first part of the itinerary, waiting for him on the Piano Nobile is instead the unmistakable voice of Giancarlo Giannini, actor and unforgettable voice actor from the Olympus of Hollywood stars. “It is a now elderly Giannini/Vivaldi, who has reached the end of his life’s seasons, ”who gives us a friendly and intimate confession, between sweet nostalgia and proud defense of his own moral integrity, but above all apassionate declaration of love for music, to honor which he fought with a serious form of asthma that accompanied him throughout his existence," says Francesco Maria Bernardi, president of Emotional Experiences S.r.l.

The path winds through the rooms of the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Fava: from the Carracci Room, where the viewer is accompanied by the child Vivaldi told in images, to the heart of the creative fury, from the priesthood to the years of teaching orphans. The Sala Rubianesca houses the reconstruction of a period theater during the performance of the works: it is succeeded by the Sala Giasone, the last stage of the itinerary, which gives way to a triumph of music and images until the climax of the finale.

A route that will be usable even by the youngest: in fact, ad hoc audio guides with adapted texts are available, which will allow even children to embark on the journey to discover the immortal music of one of the greatest composers of all time.
