From Oct. 29, 2021 to March 13, 2022, Palazzo Albergati in Bologna is dedicating an anthological exhibition to Giovanni Boldini ( Ferrara,1842 - Paris, 1931) on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his death in Paris in 1931. More than ninety works will be on display, immersing visitors in the world of the Belle Époque, including sumptuous and frilly gowns, salons and feminine glamour.
More than anyone else, Boldini was able to render the atmospheres of that era: literature and fashion, music, luxury and art produce an extraordinary social and civil renaissance. The anthological exhibition Giovanni Boldini. A Look into the Soul, which is developed both chronologically and thematically, presents a rich selection of paintings to give a better understanding of Boldini’s manner, his ability to exalt female beauty and reveal the most intimate and mysterious soul of the noble protagonists of the period. Famous works from public and private collections, such as Mademoiselle De Nemidoff (1908), Portrait of the Actress Alice Regnault (1884), Countess Beatrice Susanna Henriette van Bylandt (1903), The Countess De Rasty Lying Down (c. 1880), and The Voile Blouse (c. 1906) will arrive at Palazzo Albergati.
Through a number of comparative masterpieces, the exhibition also presents works by artists contemporary to him such as Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Federico Zandomeneghi, Gustave Leonard De Jonghe, Raimundo de Madrazo, Pompeo Massani, Gaetano Esposito, Salvatore Postiglione, José Villegas I Cordero, Alessandro Rontini, Ettore Tito, Cesare Saccaggi, Paul Cesar Helleu and Giuseppe Giani.
