Bologna, an exhibition of Carol Rama's unique multiples at Villa delle Rose

From January 25 to March 30, 2025, MAMbo - Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna del Settore Musei Civici Bologna will host at Villa delle Rose the exhibition CAROL RAMA. Unique Multiples, curated by Elena Re. This exhibition project, conceived in collaboration with Jacobacci & Partners as part of the Fuorisede initiative, is part of the institutional program of ART CITY Bologna 2025, organized on the occasion of Arte Fiera.

Designed specifically for the spaces of Villa delle Rose, the exhibition focuses on the significant body of multiples created by Carol Rama between 1993 and 2005 in collaboration with Franco Masoero Edizioni d’Arte - Turin. The works come from the collection of Franco Masoero and Alexandra Wetzel and recount the intense and fruitful collaboration between the artist and her publisher-printer, which lasted many years.

The exhibition traverses the major themes that have characterized Carol Rama’s world, bringing to the stage the characters, fetishes, seductions and idylls that populate her artistic imagination. Each room reconstructs fragments of the artist’s life and passions, revealing the powerful alchemy between the technical skill of printmaking and the poetic dimension of her creations.

The exhibition highlights Rama’s unique multiples, conceived by the artist with the same intensity and creative freedom as the one-of-a-kind pieces. For this reason, one and the same subject is sometimes also proposed in the exhibition with a pictorial intervention made by hand on the printed sheet, or it is juxtaposed with a test specimen, to be captured in the singularity of each of its declensions. Multiplied art thus breaks out of all patterns and becomes a testimony to Carol Rama’s infinite freedom.

The exhibition is on view on Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On the occasion of ART CITY Bologna 2025, it will be on view on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
