Sixth place for Blanco and Mahmood at theEurovision Song Contest in Turin, but Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo is dedicating an exhibition to them: the Blanco and Mahmood: the New World is Here exhibition is on until May 29, 2022, a project brainchild of Simone Marchetti with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo President Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and photographers Luigi & Iango.
An exhibition featuring the shots of photographers Luigi & Iango portraying the two singers as protagonists of a cover and a reportage of the weekly magazine Vanity Fair Italia. Curated by Simone Marchetti, European editorial director of Vanity Fair, and Irene Calderoni, curator of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, the exhibition is an occasion where art, music, publishing and celebrities meet to experiment with new paths and new collaborations. The title The New World is Here is the manifesto of Blanco and Mahmood’s poetics and aesthetics. Portrayed by photographers Luigi & Iango, narrators of international celebrity culture, fashion, and beauty, in these images the singers bring together the great tradition of character poses in the mosaics of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello in Venice, with the aesthetics of theNew York aristocracy of Truman Capote ’s Swans portrayed by Richard Avedon to the more prickly and dirty looks of the underground trends from which the two artists come.
"Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo is a free and purposeful place,“ said Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. ”I wanted and believed it important to present in Turin a photographic project that portrays two talents of the new Italian musical generation, at a moment of such great attention on the city. The Foundation has always been attentive to contaminations between art forms. I hope to continue a path of dialogue between different cultural worlds to build together new horizons of meaning."
“I am extremely happy to actively collaborate with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo,” commented Simone Marchetti. "I have always thought of Vanity Fair as a contemporary stage where worlds, cultures and diversity meet to dialogue and build a better future. This experiment of art, publishing, music and celebrities brought together in a foundation is just another way of telling the world and thinking about the new role that publishing is carving out for itself within contemporary information and entertainment."
