Black Fist, Fabio Viale's solo exhibition at the Poggiali Gallery in Pietrasanta, Italy.

The Pietrasanta branch of Galleria Poggiali is offering Fabio Viale ’s solo exhibition entitled Black Fist from July 27 to August 30, 2019. Three works conceived specifically for the project room in Via Garibaldi 8 will be on display, two of them previously unseen: Kouros, the epidermis of a plastic torsion bust in white marble with tattoos in black ink belonging to the language of the Russian mafia hung on the wall like an atavistic trace and surprisingly disengaged from the pedestal, and Black Fist, a hand wearing a black glove closed into a fist, made in black marble with meticulous quality in the details of the skin and anatomical folds.
The third work, titled Torno subito (I’ll be right back), on the other hand, is a double mirrored steel juxtaposed at right angles on two adjoining walls, on which are applied about twelve halves of paper-thin white marble planes , whose reflection generates the illusion of their wholeness.

With this solo exhibition he amplifies the most recurrent themes of his poetics: from the ideal allusion of the lightness of marble with Torno Subito, to the maniacally hyper-realistic quality of the surfaces of the sculptures, sustained by perceptual displacement, as in Black Fist, to the strand of tattoos with Kouros, in which sculpture accomplishes the transition whereby there is no no longer a hierarchical relationship between the work and its pedestal, but approaches a dimension so contemporary in its own actuality that it brings to mind the wall paintings of the Lascaux caves in the Upper Paleolithic.

Historical Time and the Time of Art are for Viale present time, a layering of memories that lets emerge a feeling of unbridgeable eternity that is reproduced each time with the appearance-appropriation of classical forms and proportions: a whole statue, a bust, a fragment.

The exhibition also extends into the gallery venue of theEx Luigi Tommasi Foundry.
