From tomorrow, Oct. 18, to Jan. 28, 2018, three installations by renowned American contemporary artist Bill Viola will be housed in the Crypt of the Holy Sepulcher in Milan.
The three works will offer visitors to reflect on important themes such as eternity, life, death, and the human dimension.
The exhibition will begin with The Quintet of the Silent (2000), where a group consisting of five people is crossed by a wave of intense emotions that threatens to overwhelm them.
With The Return (2007) we reflect on the passage of time and the effect it has on a person’s interiority. The protagonist is a woman who, from a dark space, slowly approaches an invisible boundary.
The path closes with Earth Martyr (2014), a work that belongs to the permanent installation Martyrs dedicated to the four elements, which opened in London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral in 2014. An individual buried in a cone of earth begins to rise and release his body from the weight of the earth.
