From October 12, 2018 to March 3, 2019, the Bologna Archaeological Museum will host the exhibition"Hokusai Hiroshige. Beyond the Wave."
For thefirst time in Italy, awide selection of works(about 270) from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston created by the two most significant masters of the Floating World, Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849) and Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 - 1858), will be exhibited.
A journey, divided thematically into six sections, will take visitors on a discovery of the images of the Floating World: from Hokusai’s scroll paintings, to his polychrome silographs, to his famous series, the most famous of which is the"Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji," to which The Great Wave belongs.
From landscapes and views of Japan, including seasonal and atmospheric changes, in the works of Hiroshige, the"master of rain and snow," to the series of"Fifty-three Tokaido Post Stations" and"One Hundred Views of Famous Places in Edo."
Among the works on display are Hokusai’s"The Great Wave by the Kanagawa Coast" and"Kajikazawa in Kai Province,""Awa. The whirlpools of Naruto,""Pagro and Japanese black pepper,""Kameido. The area in front of the Tenjin shrine" by Hiroshige.
The exhibition is curated by Rossella Menegazzo with Sarah E. Thompson; it is produced by MondoMostre Skira with Ales S.p.A Arte Lavoro e Servizi in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, promoted by the Municipality of Bologna | Istituzione Bologna Musei and sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Italy and the University of Milan.

Tickets: Full 14 euros, reduced 12 euros, reduced for children 6 to 17 years 5 euros, reduced special with conventions 10 euros, reduced university 5 euros (every Wednesday from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.). Free for children under 6.
