Banksy, Jago, TvBoy and other countercultural artists from Murakami to LaChapelle on display in Biella


In Biella, the two venues of Palazzo Gromo Losa and Palazzo Ferrero will host the exhibition "Banksy, Jago, TvBoy and Other Countercurrent Stories" from Oct. 21, 2023 to April 1, 2024, featuring ninety works by internationally renowned artists.

From Oct. 21, 2023 to April 1, 2024, the two venues of Palazzo Gromo Losa and Palazzo Ferrero in Biella will host the exhibition Banksy, Jago, TvBoy and other countercurrent stories, curated by Piernicola Maria Di Iorio, realized thanks to the collaboration between Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Biella, its instrumental company Palazzo Gromo Losa s.r.l. in collaboration with the Municipality of Biella and Arthemisia, with main sponsor Biver Banca - Gruppo Banca di Asti and technical sponsor Wide Group.

The exhibition aims to tell “countercurrent” stories of internationally known artists: in fact, ninety works by Banksy, Jago and TvBoy, Liu Bolin, David LaChapelle, Takashi Murakami, Mr. Brainwash, Obey, up to the well-known Italians Angelo Accardi, LAIKA, Marco Lodola, MaPo, Laurina Paperina, PAU, Andrea Ravo Mattoni, Rizek and Giuseppe Veneziano will be on display.



Starting at Palazzo Gromo Losa, the exhibition route begins with Jago’s works. Here he presents, among others, Memory of Self (2015), Taste of Liberty (2019), one of his best-known works Habemus Hominem (2009-2016), and First Baby from 2019, the year in which, on the occasion of the ESA (European Space Agenc y) Beyond mission, he is the first artist to send a marble sculpture to the International Space Station. The work, depicting a fetus, returned to Earth in February 2020 under the custody of the mission leader, Luca Parmitano. It continues with TvBoy: among his many works on display are Contemporary Adam (2021), Love in the time of Covid (2020), Come Forward (2020) and The Fast Supper (2021). David LaChapelle, on the other hand, brings Rebirth of Venus (2009) and The Holy family with St. Francis from 2019. Liu Bolin is also present with Hiding in Italy, Colosseum No. 1.

The exhibition then continues at Palazzo Ferrero, where there are works by Rizek, such as Pieta, a previously unseen work from 2017, Unrequired Love (2022) and Angel Red from 2021; by Pau, the Negrita frontman, here with his Santa Suerte series; by Andrea Ravo Mattoni with Caravaggio. Boy Bitten by a Lizard (2022) and Vermeer. Girl with a Pearl Earring (2022). Also on display are two works by Laika(Woman, Life, Freedom, #notonewithout and Zapatos Rojos - Save Afghan Women. Yellow Burqa version), Obey’s Hope (2019) and his famous manifesto We, the people, are greater than fear (2017), alcuen canvases by Giuseppe Veneziano, such as Fifty Shades of Goofy, Eros and Thanatos, Indignados, accompanied by three crypto NFT, digital videos. It then continues with Mr. Brainwash, Laurina Paperina, Takashi Murakami, Angelo Accardi. Thirteen works by Banksy are on display including Girl with baloon, Queen Vic, Because I’m worthless and Bomb Love. Finally, outside at the end of the exhibition are two sculptures by Marco Lodola: Anche mia mamma fa la spesa and Schermaglia.

Hours: Wednesday and Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m.; Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
