Banksy for the first time in Trento: a never-before-seen perspective on the mysterious British street artist

For the first time in Trento an exhibition dedicated to the mysterious British artist Banksy. "With us, Banksy also becomes a 'classic,' studied and proposed with rigor and quality," said the curators.

Coming to Trento for the first time is an exhibition on Banksy, the famous and mysterious British street art artist. Staged at Palazzo delle Albere and open to visitors from June 19 to September 11, 2022, Banksy. The Artist of the Present. An Unauthorized Exhibition brings to the exhibition a selection of original silkscreens, those that Banksy considers key traces in spreading his ethical messages. “We present in Trento,” explain curators Stefano Antonelli and Gianluca Marziani, "also a section dedicated to video production, to date one of the lesser-known aspects of the artist but no less important for insights and messages. And again: a ’data’ section in which we will offer more scientific tools, decisive to investigate the reasons behind a success that has no equal in recent history." The brainchild of Vittorio Sgarbi and in collaboration with MetaMorfosi Eventi, the exhibition features a strictly non-commercial Banksy, treating him for the first time as if he were one of the great classical artists."Banksy the artist of the present is not an immersive exhibition of reproductions,“ the curators emphasize, ”but an incredible collection of original and authenticated pieces that allow viewers to discover Banksy’s mysterious universe."

"Banksy the artist of the present,“ says MetaMorfosi President Pietro Folena, ”is an exhibition that tells the sense of theartistic insurgence of the 2000s of which the anonymous artist from Bristol is the world’s leading exponent. By delving into Banksy’s urban art through an academic perspective, the exhibition opens up an unprecedented view of the artist. We approach this artist with the same method we use for the Renaissance greats. With us, Banksy also becomes a ’classic,’ studied and proposed with rigor and quality."

Stressing that the artist is not involved in the exhibition in any way and has not provided any endorsement or support or artwork for this project, organizers and curators explain that the works have been authenticated and the catalog approved by Banksy’s legal entity, Pest Control Office Ltd. after being checked for accuracy and authenticity.

Among the artist’s most iconic works are on display Girl with Balloon, Love is in the Air (Flower Thrower), Love Rat, Bomb Hugger, CND Soldiers, Golf Sale, Barcode and Toxic Mary/Virgin Mary.

“Banksy continues to push boundaries and question society’s morals with his ironic, iconic and irreverent style. His identity constitutes only a small part of the mystery, as his work is really the metaphorical iceberg that penetrates deep into the heart of humanity, whose surface his work only scratches,” Antonelli and Marziani conclude.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by Sagep that offers visitors a deeper understanding of Banksy’s work, with a series of interdisciplinary analyses by art curators and professors that tie together various complex themes.
