The exhibition At the Conquest of Light by Pablo Atchugarry (Montevideo, 1954) will be on display in the Sala del Maggior Consiglio of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa from July 6 to August 25, 2019.
Twenty-five works that testify to the artist’s great ability to create with marble through a gesture of tactile seduction; voids and solids of the marble surface, white of Carrara marble or gray of bardiglio, through which light diffuses.
In addition to the marbles, about fifteen bronzes characterized by variable monochromaticism will be on display.
Visitors will be greeted in the ground-floor atrium of the Ducal Palace by the impressive work The Dance of Life: a desiccated olive tree, hollowed out and worked with special tools, which has become a work of art. From here the entire contemplative journey will begin: the works will be placed in dialogue with the spaces of the interior, remodeled in the 18th century in the neoclassical style.
The artist’s creativity passes through a classicism that harks back to ancient Greco-Roman culture and subsequent Baroque phases that produce lines and forms in space.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Civiero Art Gallery.
