The first major retrospective in Switzerland dedicated to Gabriele Münter, among the most important artists of German Expressionism and co-founder of the Der Blaue Reiter group, is on view at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern until May 8, 2022.

A retrospective exhibition dedicated to one of the most important artists ofGerman Expressionism, Gabriele Münter (Berlin, 1877 - Murnau am Staffelsee, 1962), opened Jan. 29 at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern and will remain on public view until May 8, 2022. A co-founder of the Der Blaue Reiter group along with Vasily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, and Paul Klee, a pioneer of modern art and a fellow painter of Vasily Kandinsky, the artist produced a diverse nucleus of works during her sixty-year activity and developed a highly independent pictorial language.

The exhibition entitled Gabriele Münter. Pioneer of Modern Art aims to be the first major retrospective devoted to the artist in Switzerland: it brings together not only paintings, drawings and prints, but also part of her extensive photographic activity, documenting her early travels to America and Tunisia and her stays in France.

The exhibition was made possible through collaboration with the Gabriele Münter und Johannes Eichner Stiftung and the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus und Kunstbau in Munich.
