On the occasion of Christmas 2019, Prato ’s Museo del Tessuto opens an exhibition dedicated to award-winning film costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini. In fact, the exhibition presents an absolute premiere of his latest work: more than thirty costumes made for Matteo Garrone’s film Pinocchio, to be released in theaters on December 19, distributed by 01 Distribution and starring a great cast, with Roberto Benigni as Geppetto, Gigi Proietti as Mangiafuoco, and Rocco Papaleo and Massimo Ceccherini as the Cat and the Fox. Of the costumes on display, twenty-five were made by Sartoria Tirelli, five by Sartoria Costumi d’Arte Peruzzi, two by Cospazio 26, and the wigs by Rocchetti and Rocchetti.
The exhibition itinerary is divided into two sections: the first dedicated to the costume designer, his sources of inspiration and his creative work through videos, fabric samples, historical garments from the 18th and 19th centuries from his extraordinary personal collection, used as direct sources of inspiration for the creation of the clothes in the film. The second will instead feature an exhibition of more than thirty costumes of the film’s main characters, accompanied by images from the film itself and some, symbolic props.
Massimo Cantini Parrini is the only Italian costume designer to have won three consecutive David di Donatello Awards with each nomination (2016-2018), in addition to other numerous awards and recognitions such as Nastri d’Argento and Ciak d’oro. In 2018 he received the E.F.A., the European Oscar for best costume designer for Matteo Garrone’s film Dogman. He has worked on more than fifty film productions with his costumes, many of them for internationally renowned directors.
The exhibition is open from December 21, 2019 to March 22, 2020.
