At the National Gallery in London the exhibition Sorolla: Spanish Master of Light is on view until July 7, 2019. This is the first British exhibition dedicated to the celebrated Spanish Impressionist artist Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (Valencia, 1863 - Cercedilla, 1923).
The exhibition aims to be one of the rare opportunities to see the most comprehensive selection of works by the artist, who is recognized as a master of light for his extremely luminous canvases.
Fifty-eight works spanning his artistic career are on display: from vivid seascapes and flowering gardens to scenes of Spanish life-many of these paintings come from international private collections. Among the masterpieces featured is Sewing the Sail from the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art in Venice.
The exhibition is organized by the National Gallery and the National Gallery of Ireland in collaboration with the Museo Sorolla in Madrid.
