At the Egyptian Museum in Turin, guided tour on Thebes, capital of Egypt

On Saturday, September 16, the Egyptian Museum in Turin will hold a guided tour on the theme 'Thebes Capital of Egypt.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Egyptian Museum of Turin will organize a guided tour “Thebes Capital of Egypt” that will take visitors on a discovery of the historical phase known as the First Intermediate Period, during which there was a great deal of political fragmentation until a dynasty originally from Thebes (now called Luxor) came to power.

During this period, in fact, saw the decline of the Pharaonic kingdom and an increasing power of the governors of the provinces. There was a brief revival of the pharaohs with the Akhtoy dynasty, which imposed Heracleopolis as the capital of Egypt, until a family of warrior princes originally from Thebes, whose most famous member was Menthotpe I, grew in political importance sparking a civil war between the two cities that ended with the victory of Thebes, whose governor reunited the two kingdoms.

This historical period gave rise to a new culture, a new society, and a new politics in ancient Egypt.

The tour will last one hour starting at 3 p.m. (public price €5, excluding museum admission) and will take visitors on a reconstruction of the village of Deir el-Medina, discovering the most fascinating aspects of society, economy of religion and work during the New Kingdom.
