At Palazzo Grassi, Cartier-Bresson's photography through the eyes of five curators

Palazzo Grassi in Venice hosts from March 22, 2020 to January 10, 2021 the exhibition Henri Cartier-Bresson. Le grand jeu.

From March 22, 2020 to January 10, 2021, Palazzo Grassi in Venice will host the exhibition Henri Cartier-Bresson. Le grand jeu, conceived and coordinated by Matthieu Humery, produced with the Bibliothèque nationale de France and in collaboration with the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson.

The exhibition aims to compare the gaze of five curators on the work of the famous photographer and especially on the Master Collection, 385 images that the artist himself called the most significant of his work in the early 1970s, at the invitation of his collector friends Jean and Dominique de Menil.

The five curators, namely photographer Annie Leibovitz, filmmaker Wim Wenders, writer Javier Cercas, conservator and director of the Prints and Photography department of the Bibliothèque nationale de France Sylvie Aubenas, and collector François Pinault, in turn chose about fifty shots from the original Master Collection; in fact, there are five examples of the latter. Thanks to their selection, visitors will understand each one’s personal view of Cartier-Bresson’s photography and art.

In spring 2021, the exhibition will be presented at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.
