Mediartrade Auction House presents the next Modern and Contemporary Art auction on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6 at 5:30 pm. This auction is intended to place great emphasis on the most important Italian artists of the 20th century. These include Fortunato Depero, Tano Festa and Mario Schifano: the former present with a Fantasia o Festa tirolese, a drawing on canvas paper made in 1923-1924 (estimated between 4,000 and 6,000 euros), the latter present in lots 48 and 49(Landscape on a Black Background and Still Life) and Schifano in lots 77 and 78 (both Untitled with estimates between 9,000 and 11,000 euros).
Highlights include Mimmo Rotella ’s Sardinian Games in lot 79 (estimated between 12,000 and 16,000 euros), two canvases from 1957 and 1961 by Achille Perilli in lots 88 and 89(Finding the Land and Studio), a Marina by Carlo Carrà made in 1958 in lot 82 (estimated between 25.000 to 30,000 euros), a lyrical and poignant Pentimento, oil on canvas by Osvaldo Licini executed in 1954 at lot 90 (estimate between 70,000 and 80,000 euros). And again, a notable selection of works by Marino Marini at lots 2(Mattutino), 91(Composizione), 93(Pomona), 94(Cavallo e cavaliere): his is a significant polychrome bronze sculpture completed in 1951 depicting a small threadlike horse present at lot 92 (estimated between 220,000 and 240,000 euros).
It continues with a work by Giacomo Balla from the early 1920s (lot 95), Fiori stilizzati, estimated between 80,000 and 100,000 euros), a ceramic by Lucio Fontana from the early 1950s depicting a Crucifix (lot 103) with an estimate between 90.000 and 110,000 euros, three works by Enrico Baj at lots 83(Characters), 84 (Lady), 85(Teodora wife Androfilo), including a clay sculpture made with his son in 1991, estimated between 7,000 and 8,000 euros.
Also worth mentioning are Giuseppe Capogrossi at lot 100 with Superficie 612 estimated between 90,000 and 120,000 euros and an extroflexed canvas by Agostino Bonalumi at lot 101 (estimated between 65,000 and 80,000 euros), an oil on masonite by Josef Albers (estimated between 300,000 and 350,000 euros) that is part of the series of works related to his Homage to the Square (lot 109), an untitled acrylic by Keith Haring (lot 110) estimated between 210.000 to 230,000 euros, a series of sculptures by Mitoraj in lots 111, 112 and 113, a watercolor on paper by Chagall (lot 116, a maquette for Stravinsky’sFirebird ) estimated between 20,000 and 25,000 euros and a Cow tryptich by Roy Lichtenstein (lot 123) estimated between 4,000 and 6,000 euros.
